Ürgüp

SOTA Cappadocia is in Urgup, the main town of the Cappadocia region, 20km east of Nevsehir. Throughout history, Urgup has been an important centre for the area and has gone through many name changes. In the early Roman era it was known as Osiana (Assiana) and then became known as Hagios Prokopios (Prokopi) during the Byzantine age. During the Seljuk era its moniker was Burgut Castle while in the Ottoman age it was called Bashisar. Finally, after the Turkish Republic was established, its name was changed to Urgup. Today Urgup retains its regional importance and is Cappadocia’s main tourism destination, thanks to its central location close to all of Cappadocia’s important historical and natural sites.

 

How to Get to Cappadocia and Sota 

 

By Flight;

There are two airports for the Cappadocia Region; Kayseri Erkilet Airport and Nevsehir Kapadokya Airport.

 

Kayseri Airport:

There are several fligts from Istanbul to Kayseri Erkilet Airport daily.

Turkish Airlines (www.turkishairlines.com), Pegasus Airlines (www.flypgs.com) and Atlas Jet Airlines (www.atlasglb.com) all have direct flights from İstanbul.

Sunexpress Airlines (www.sunexpress.com) has flights from Antalya and Izmir several times per week.

Kayseri airport is 70 km from Sota Cappadocia; about one hour’s drive by car.

 

Nevsehir Kapadokya Airport:

There are several fligts from Istanbul to Nevsehir Kapadokya Airport daily.

Turkish Airlines (www.turkishairlines.com) and Pegasus Airlines (www.flypgs.com)  all have direct flights from İstanbul.

Nevsehir Kapadokya Airport airport is 50 km from Sota Cappadocia; about 45 mins drive by car.

 

Airport Transfer:

Airport shuttle services are available for all incoming and outgoing flights. Seats on the shuttle need to be reserved in advance. If you need an airport transfer, provide us with your flight details and we can arrange this for you.

By Car;

The distance between Istanbul and Urgup is approximately 730 kms and it is about 8 hours drive by car.

The distance between Ankara and Urgup is 325 Kms and it is about 4 hours drive by car.

 

By Bus;

There are 3 main bus companies with regular services to Cappadocia:
