Şırahane

This room was once used to prepare and make pekmez (grape molasses) from the vineyard grapes. Rich in vitamin C, Pekmez is still used as a popular condiment and common cure-all today by Cappadocian locals.

Tandır Oda

The family’s tandır (a cylindrical earthenware oven) would have taken centre stage in this room where all of the baking and cooking took place. The family also would have dined here, gathered on cushions around a traditional low, round dining table.

Kaya Oyma Erzak Odası

Long before refrigerators became commonplace in Cappadocian homes, the naturally cool cave interiors were used for storing food. This is the room where the family’s provisions were kept to keep their freshness.

Kule Oda

Every traditional Turkish home reserved their best room for hosting guests. With its high ceiling and wraparound views over Urgup, this room would have been the one in which the family welcomed visitors. Today, it is still the perfect place to sit back and enjoy sunrise and sunset panoramas.

Şömineli Oda

During the cold winter nights, before TV, internet, or radio, the family would gather in this room to talk in front of the fireplace.

Göbekli Oda

In what would have been the main bedroom for the entire family, the ceiling rose, chiselled out from one block of rock, provides the largest piece of ornamentation in the house.

Dokumahane

The women of the house would have spent their leisure time in here, in front of the kilim and carpet looms where the young girl’s wedding dowrys were woven.
